The scientific debate over whether Bidens pilosa and Bidens alba should instead be treated as a single species was outlined on the Butterflies of Singapore website on 27 August 2016.

As of 23 July 2026, no Singapore observations of this species had been reported on iNaturalist. By contrast, 123 observations of Bidens alba had been reported from Singapore. Bidens alba is also absent from the 2022 Singapore Flora Checklist, although it appeared in the earlier (2009) version. In the 2009 checklist, Bidens alba was listed as “cultivated only”, while Bidens pilosa was listed as “naturalised”. Because the 2022 checklist excludes “cultivated only” species, the absence of Bidens alba from that edition does not necessarily mean that it is absent from Singapore.
